After spending Thanksgiving 1999 in Trenton with Lewis and Inis and seeing lots of family there, I drifted back to Jeff City to spend the weekend with Cousin Rhonda and her wonderful family. Rhonda is supermom. She seems to have mastery of all things mom-like: Feeding a family of six on a budget, making and altering clothes, sorting a garbage bag full of socks at a time, etc. She's also the craft queen, turning toilet paper rolls, fruit juice cans, and various other household biproducts into art. I found out this trip that she is also the Christmas Queen. They have Christmas trees all over their house (in a variety of themes) and thousands of ornaments, all of which seem to have a unique bit of folklore attached to them. Watching them festoon the house was incredibly entertaining, though i don't envy them the job of packing everything up after the holidays.
The girls are so grown up now! Amy is off to College and she's been travelling with a youth ministry group from her college. She sang at Church on Sunday and was just great. I'm not big on church, but I couldn't resist going to hear her. She's going to be part of a thing next week called "The Living Christmas Tree" where they stack singers up in a pyramid 9 levels high and they all sing from their spots in the Christmas Tree. I'm having a little trouble visualizing it, it sounds pretty amazing. Alpha is now the queen bee in charge on the home front and she has also been spending some time with this really nice boy named Justin Brown. I didn't get to meet him, but I hope to the next time I'm out there. I'm sure he's wonderful, Alpha is a great judge of character. Aubry and Ashley have grown incredibly this year. (Aubry is 11 and she looks like she's 17) They have eclipsed Alpha and she no longer has to worry about her sisters snagging her shoes and clothes. Lucky her! All are busy with tons of school activities. Steve and Rhonda are taking a trip to Florida in a couple of weeks. It's going to seem awfully quiet to them after the hustle and bustle on Christopher Lane.
